Abstract
This article outlines the procedure and guidelines used to create human-machine interface (HMI) faceplates for industrial control systems that represent protective relays. The faceplates are developed around an International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 61850-enabled network and represent a structured, industry-accepted, HMI format. The background and benefits of the IEC 61850 standard are also discussed.
