Abstract :
A new, simple method of fabricating long-period fibre gratings by direct exposure of the fibre to focused 10.6 μm wavelength CO2 laser pulses is presented. No ultraviolet exposure is used. Hydrogen loading is found to enhance the writing sensitivity
