Abstract
A brief overview of instability mechanisms in a class of hybrid systems is presented. The class of systems considered are those which are constructed by switching between linear time invariant systems with real distinct eigenvalues. Modal analysis is used not only to provide insights into instability mechanisms in such systems, but also to suggest stable design laws.
