Abstract :
The increase in magnetic density of computer disk drives is associated with a dramatic reduction in head-disk separation. A tri-pad airbearing technology for near-contact recording applications is introduced. Its discussion covers the airbearing design, mode of operation to achieve near-contact, and experimental results of characterization of the tri-pad air-bearing. It is shown that the tri-pad technology can be reliable used for numerous disk drives
