Abstract :
The combination of the global economic crisis and growing international competition in science innovation has prompted a demand for professionals who possess scientific training and multidisciplinary entrepreneurial skills to meet the increasing demands of the workforce. This paper discusses the professional science master´s programs at Rutger, The State University of New Jersey. The Rutgers PSM model is an example of developing collaborative partnerships on a statewide level. Efforts are currently being undertaken to expand the PSM model by developing international partnerships with leading universities in the fields of science, engineering, and business across five continents. PSM programs across the United States are bridging the gap between the academic and practical aspects of the sciences. These programs are truly addressing the innovation needs of the science and technology workforce of the 21st century.
