Abstract
The MPOA protocol adopts LANL for the Intra-IASG Communication. In the paper, the authors discuss the advantages and the disadvantages of MPOA and explain why LANE is a performance bottleneck in the Intra-IASG Communication and the Inter-IASG Communication. To verify their ideas, they benchmark the performance of LANE and IPOA. The results show IPOA is more scaleable than LANE when bandwidths increase. This is due to the differences in the number of interrupts. The results also suggest that the implementation of the IPOA protocol is necessary when we increase the bandwidth of edge devices. Hence, the authors propose the IPOA+ protocol to extend the functions of IPOA to edge devices and discuss the necessary changes for incorporating the IPOA+ protocol into the MPOA protocol. The modified MPOA protocol is called the MPOA+ protocol. The functionality provided by MPOA+ is the same as MPOA so upper layers need not have any changes. The MPOA+ protocol reduces signal traffic and needs fewer preestablished connections than the MPOA protocol
