Abstract :
Permalloy (NiFe) based multilayers with Cu spacer layer were fabricated on various Si wafers (Si(100), Si(111), 4° tilt-cut Si(111)). When Cu was used as an underlayer, the multilayers grown on 4° tilt cut Si(111) showed an in-plane uniaxial anisotropy. This was not observed for those grown on Si(100) or Si(111). When other elements (Ni,Fe,NiFe) were used as an underlayer, no appreciable in-plane anisotropy could be observed
