Abstract
This paper investigates the trade-off between speed and accuracy of a Josephson comparator by numerical simulations. The accuracy is quantified by the width of the gray zone whereas the speed is determined by the switching time of the comparator cell. In contrast to previous studies, both performance parameters are simultaneously evaluated. It turns out that there is an inherent compromise between speed and accuracy that is robust against modifications of circuit parameters. Eventually, a new comparator topology is proposed to improve the accuracy while maintaining a reasonable switching speed.
