Abstract
When the waveform distortion in a magnetoresistive head is affected by the alignment between the sensor and the recorded track, changes in the ontrack asymmetry can produce systematic changes in the offtrack capability. A qualitative model is presented to illustrate the mechanism responsible for producing this relationship
