Abstract :
Peak detection, because of simplicity, remains a practical channel for magnetic tape recording even at densities above 80 kfci. Recently, write equalization has been shown to be useful in controlling the polarity of adjacent recorded transitions. By this method the data density is improved to 120-160 kbpi. Because consecutive same polarity data pulses give rise to charge accumulation new channel codes are needed to regulate the number of consecutive same polarity pulses. This paper presents codes applicable to these new channels
