Abstract
The corrosion behavior of Metal Evaporated (ME) and Metal Particle (MP) media in a mixed corrosive gas environment was studied using microscopic techniques. Combined AFM and MFM studies showed severe corrosion of ME tape. Auger and EDAX spectroscopic studies showed that corrosion products were chlorine and Ni. MP tape was round to be more corrosive environment. Nodules that grew on tape represented a loss of magnetic moment added to spacing loss
