Abstract :
This paper presents the results of laboratory evaluations for some different generations of the ATSC 8-VSB digital television receivers that are currently available in the market. The tests, performed by the Communications Research Centre Canada (CRC), were to determine the ability of the receivers to maintain successful reception on a desired DTV channel in the presence of a single or double adjacent/taboo channel interference. As the FCC has also performed tests with similar purposes on a variety of consumer grade DTV receivers, some comparisons are also made between the CRC and FCC test results. The results of this experiment may be helpful in providing a better perspective in devising technical criteria for the sharing of the TV bands with other services. An example of such services is the TV Band Devices (TVBD), which is suggested to operate in the "white spaces" of the TV bands. TVBDs must protect DTV or any other services (incumbents) that are already allowed to operate in the TV spectrum, and can not claim protection from them.
