Abstract

A new IEEE recommended practice (841-1986) that forms the basis of a specification for NEMA frame, totally enclosed fan-cooled motors meeting the severe duty requirements of the petrochemical industry is introduced. Many of the recommendations stem from users´ experiences. The standard was prepared under the joint sponsorship of the Industry Applications Society Petroleum and Chemical Industry Committee (PCIC) and the Power Engineering Society Rotating Machinery Committee (RMC). The project scope, objective, history, accomplishments, and application are discussed
