Abstract :
In this letter, an effective method for clutter cancellation for through-wall radar imaging applications is presented. Here, objects placed in front of the wall possibly behind the transceiver antenna act as clutters. Using physical optics approximation and a 3-D ray-tracing algorithm, time-domain backscattering from conducting objects located in both sides of a homogeneous wall is simulated. It is observed that the signals from objects are basically copies of the transmitted signal with same time intervals but different magnitudes. Copies due to an object in front of the wall have alternating signs, while those due to that behind the wall possess the same signs. First, an experiment is carried out to verify this observation. Next, assuming that signals coming from different targets are well separated in time, a simple method based on generalized pencil of function is presented to eliminate clutter response both for noiseless and very noisy signals.
