Abstract :
What do computational electromagnetics and Lotus 1-2-3 have in common? Finite-difference solutions of complex structures! In the November 1988 issue of Microwaves & RF, William H. Lockyear shows how the popular PC-based spreadsheet program can be harnessed to perform inexpensive and user-friendly analysis of microwave components such as coupled strip lines in a metal enclosure. Although spreadsheet programs admittedly offer less resolution than the specialized finite-difference software and they lack extensive graphical capabilities, Lockyear feels that their results are often equally useful.
