Abstract :
Our paper, presented at the 2011 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation, presented a correction to the Fresnel coefficients that appear in Stratton, the Feynman Lectures on Physics, and elsewhere. These Fresnel coefficients are for a uniform plane wave incident on an interface with a lossy medium, and are written in terms of the angle of refraction. The letter to the Editor contains an interesting interpretation of the term using this angle, replaces it by the correct value, and then finds a result that agrees with ours. We are gratified that the letter to the Editor agrees that our “corrected Fresnel coefficients” are correct. However, directly evaluating the term involving the angle of refraction as it appears in the formulas given by Stratton and others shows it differs from our “corrected” result.
