Abstract :
A theoretical analysis has been attempted on reflex klystrons which operate over a wide range of frequencies at a constant reflector voltage. As a result of experiments on some experimental tubes for the 4 and 7Gc/s bands, it was confirmed that the theoretical results obtained were in good agreement with the experiments. The analysis has been carried out on the basis of the simplest and ideal conditions, and considering an approximate method of expressing the effects of cavity gap and resonant frequency of the cavity circuit, permitted a general treatment of the analysis. Furthermore, the extent of the improvement made possible by this treatment was shown by the deriving of an equation concerned with oscillation output. Various klystron structures were examined so that experimental tubes having structures suitable for the experiments could be manufactured, and various characteristics were studied to confirm that they agreed with those found theoretically.
