Abstract :
Investigations have been made of the characteristics of metric radio transmissions in the trans-horizon region, at ranges up to 400 nautical miles. These indicate the essentially continuous existence of troposphere-supported signal components in this region, although their detailed characteristics are subject to variations. Under particular meteorological conditions, such as the formation of an elevated inversion layer, an additional propagation mode is present, leading to a composite signal at intermediate ranges.
