Abstract :
The particular problems in the measurement and interpretation of oscillator noise spectra are discussed, and an outline is given of the basic experimental methods available. A summary is presented of the results of many measurements on all varieties of the O-type backward-wave oscillator presently available in Britain. The outline of a theory of transverse beam oscillations and its application to oscillator noise is also presented.
