Abstract :
Chromium oxide (Cr2O3) nanopowder was successfully synthesised in aqueous and non-aqueous medium using ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) as a chelating agent. The highest specific surface area of 102.7 m2/g was obtained in an aqueous medium at [EDTA]/[Cr+3] ratios of 1. The effects of reactant concentration, aqueous medium and reflux time were studied. Cr2O3 nanopowders were characterised by means of X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area measurements.
