Abstract
A modified dispersion asymmetric nonlinear optical loop mirror (MDA-NOLM) with dispersion management inside the fibre loop is presented. The dispersive elements connected to the two ends of the nonlinear fibre have equal but opposite group velocity dispersions (GVDs), thus offering a minimised total GVD while maintaining enhanced dispersion imbalance for the NOLM. With a single control pulse train, error-free 80 to 10 Gbit/s reconfigurable all-optical two-channel demultiplexing has been achieved based on the proposed MDA-NOLM.
