Abstract
In many ways, social networks can be considered a type of monitoring system which collects data about users. One of the problems with monitoring systems is that they can often be found to influence the behavior of those being observed. This has implications for the services being provided based on the data. This paper aims to use ubiquitous monitoring as a lens with which to examine the issues of social networks as a monitoring system. Moran and Nataka´s PSA-BI model is used to frame this theoretical exploration, and also serves as a potential means for predicting the behaviors of users in social networks.
