Abstract
Niching genetic algorithms can allow a breadth first search of the design space. Ideally, they can present the designer with several alternate designs allowing a much better appreciation of the optima found. The algorithm is also naturally parallel. The paper discusses the basic concepts and the effects of the various parameters in the algorithm
