Abstract :
The paper presents new developments in modeling AC losses in high-temperature superconducting (HTS) tapes as a highly nonlinear diffusion process. Following a successful 1D formulation for a bulk superconductor and subsequent inclusion of the presence of silver in a tape using a `sandwich´ model, a 2D scheme has now been developed using time-stepping finite difference formulation and is briefly described. Edge effects and importance of nonlinearity are emphasised
