Abstract
Concordat is a new scheme that is being introduced at many UK universities and which is designed to foster the personal and professional development of contract research staff. Experience of Concordat at the University of Leeds indicates that such staff gain added-value skills which should enhance their career prospects. With the introduction of Concordat, training and its review have now been placed on a more formal basis. Universities have recognised the importance of young researchers by ensuring that they acquire competencies that will enhance research performance and translate into more widely transferable skills
