Abstract :
Microprocessor control of low-level functions is transforming the capabilities of limb prostheses. The author reports on recent and future developments in artificial hands. The author discusses the design challenges for such limb prosthesis. Control of electric limb prostheses are discussed. The author then discusses the development of the Southampton hand first developed at Southampton University in the early 1970s
