A design for an automatic graph plotter

A design for an automatic graph plotter using digital techniques throughout and incorporating full scaling and zero-shift facilities is described. Alternative approaches to some sections of the design are discussed. The equipment makes use of transistors and printed circuits for both arithmetic and logical operations and incorporates a mechanical design for the table movements which makes possible the use of small low-powered driving motors with a high rate of acceleration. With a suitable input device, points close together can be plotted at the rate of three per second with a positional accuracy better than 0.01 in.
