Abstract :
The authors demonstrate a novel, optically powered, optoelectronic switch with polarization routing of data. The bandwidth of the system is 140 Mb/s. Electrical crosstalk between channels was measured to be 30 dB lower in an optically powered as compared to a similar, electrically powered circuit with capacitive interstage decoupling. Optical crosstalk between the two switch channels was measured to be -30 dB. Extension of the experiment to a monolithically integrated circuit is discussed. Switch packing densities of greater than 100 cm/sup -2/ are shown to be easily achievable.<>
