Indexing Video Archives

With the advent of streaming video on the World Wide Web (WWW) comes the need to index video archives. Two companies - Islip Media and WBN - have taken different approaches to handling this daunting task. Islip, based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, recently introduced the Islip MediaKey Digital Library System (Information Week, Sept. 29, 1997). MediaKey consists of the MediaKey Builder, a video and audio indexing service; the MediaKey Finder, a video search engine; and the MediaKey Logger, a real-time cataloging and search-and-retrieval software program.
