Abstract
Discusses the proposal that, in the fifth decade of the twentieth century, the direction of technology, and even of military science, was irreversibly changed by the work of scientists like Townes, Dicke, Basov, Prokhorov, Bloembergen, and many others harnessing the dynamics of molecules. Claims that, molecular electronics, with the harnessing of the solid state (transistors), has seriously affected everything scientists have done in the past forty years
