Abstract
Orlov´s synthesis formula is a Fourier-type relationship between the distribution function of a non-uniform line and the input and output reflection coefficients. It is shown that Orlov´s result can be derived by treating the analysis of a non-uniform line as a one-dimensional scattering problem. The transmission-line equations are first transformed into an integral equation by employing the appropriate Green´s function. The approximate solution of this equation obtained by truncating the Fredholm series leads to Orlov´s formula.
