Abstract :
This paper proposes an oscillation monitoring tool capable of detecting the emergence of small signal instability events in an online fashion. The tool uses synchronous generator data to extract the damping and frequencies of modes in an online parallel setting. The analysis uses Prony algorithm that is capable of fitting a given set of data into damped exponentials. The uniqueness is based on the execution of oscillation monitoring algorithm on a high performance computing framework enabling the online execution. The parallel implementation of Prony analysis enables the rate of the moving window to be higher than the sequential code.. The test system is simulated on Real Time Digital Simulator and the relevant signals of the synchronous generators are communicated to the computing platform for subsequent analysis.
