Abstract
This letter describes an efficient method for identifying the initial position of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) with an incremental encoder, even when a brake and/or a constant load torque is being applied. The authors´ method is more efficient in the respects of accuracy and reliability than the conventional method using commutation signals
