Abstract
The total electromagnetic field near a highly conducting cylindrical antenna of finite length, which is excited by a plane electromagnetic wave with the electric vector Ezi parallel to the axis of the cylinder, is investigated. The integral equation for the current in the cylinder is transformed into an integral equation for the axial component Ez(¿, z) of the electric field. This equation is solved approximately, and an explicit formula for Ez(¿, z) is derived. This, together with the simply obtained expressions for B¿(¿, z) and E¿(¿,z), give the complete electromagnetic field near a conducting cylinder.
