Abstract :
In July 1961 the first tropospheric-scatter radio-relay system within the British Commonwealth was installed over the 195 mile path between Trinidad and Barbados in the West Indies. The system was initially engineered to carry 12 telephone channels, and employs 30ft-diameter antennas, 1 kW transmitters, and operates at 900 Mc/s. It has proved operationally satisfactory in every way. To accommodate increasing traffic demands, the capacity will ultimately be extended to 64 telephone channels.
