Abstract
In this letter, a printed circularly polarized omnidirectional Y-shaped monopole antenna for possible satellite and terrestrial applications is presented. The proposed antenna incorporates the desirable features of wire turnstile antennas while eliminating external coupler networks used in those antennas. Furthermore, the antenna structure is extremely simple and durable, occupies relatively small space, and resists breakage. The antenna is matched to a 50-Ω coaxial cable without any requirement for an external matching. The fabricated antenna operates over the frequency band of 2250-2350 MHz and provides both senses of circular polarization simultaneously resulting in a superior performance over the frequency band of operation.
