Abstract :
The authors have designed, fabricated and characterised singlemode rib optical waveguides at 1.55 μm with high form birefringence. The core of the waveguide, which is composed of alternate layers of GaAs and AlAs, propagates both TE00 and TM00 modes with good vertical and lateral confinement, and presents a modal birefringence of >0.047 at 1.55 μm. This is an essential step for the conception of acousto and optoelectronic components on multiquantum well structures
