Abstract :
The spectral linewidth of continuously wavelength tunable laser diodes has been significantly reduced by the buried facets technique. Embedding the λg=1.3 μm InGaAsP tuning region of a λ=1.55 μm tunable twin-guide distributed feedback laser entirely in high-bandgap InP suppresses the electronic 1/f noise by more than 10 dB, yielding a spectral linewidth up to a factor of two smaller during tuning
