New approach to H.F. station planning

The paper describes how a number of recently developed techniques are being incorporated into larger point-to-point communication transmittingstations. These techniques permit more logical station planning and logical extension from time to time, and reduce the operating staff to a fraction of that at present used on such stations. Complete station control is from a central position, and this can be extended to full remote control with revertible check. The use of any number of transmitters with any number of aerials is quite a practical proposition, the limit being dictated only by physical space. All frequencies used are decade selected, and are derived from a very-high-stability master source. The transmitters automatically frequency-follow the selected frequency, which is in steps of 100 c/s and spans the h.f. band from 4 to 27.5 Mc/s.
