Abstract
A new metal particulate tape (MP tape) was prepared in order to confirm the possibility of raising recording density. The thickness of the magnetic layer was reduced below 0.1 micrometers without coating defects, The magnetic layer comprises ferromagnetic metal particles with a coercivity of 192 kA/m, a saturation magnetization of 153A·m2/kg, and a particle length of 0.1 micrometer. Saturated magnetic flux density of the magnetic layer is approximately 520 mT. Evaluated on DVC (Digital VCR for Consumer use) standards, the performance was almost the same as that of a ME tape for DVC
