Abstract :
A new method for the design of polyphase fractional-slot windings is described. The method is based on a synthetic use of symmetrical-component theory, by which a balanced winding is formed from a combination of unbalanced winding components. Although the method was originally devised in connection with change-speed windings, it has now been applied to the design of fractional-slot windings in general. The single-speed aspects of the new logic are described in the paper, with special reference to 3-phase windings.
