Abstract
A high-speed random-access ferrite-core storage system is described, designed for use in faster computing machines of the future, and in other applications such as pulse `sorters¿ and `buffer¿ stores. A storage system of this type, of 1024 words, 25 bits each, using one core per bit and a partial switching technique has been simulated and tested. The system tested, which employs ferrite cores with an outside diameter of 0.030in, has a cycle time of about 500ns and a read access time of about 260ns. These times represent an improvement in speed of about four times that of present-day comparable systems.
