Abstract :
The CCITT and CCIR have recommended to administrations at various times since 1957 the measurement of certain characteristics of the noise in telephone and television channels routed over s.h.f. radio-relay systems, with particular reference to variations in the noise which might arise from fading or other effects of the propagation path. An extended series of measurements on an s.h.f. radio link operating in the band 3800¿4200Mc/s has now been completed, and the results are presented in the paper. Details are given of the noise parameters required to be measured, and salient features of the measuring equipment are mentioned. The variation with time of one type of noise is remarked upon, and a source of the noise is suggested. The performance of the radio system is found to be within recommended limits.
