Abstract :
It is shown that the extinction of a domain wall and its subsequent reappearance during changes in the magnetisation of a ferromagnetic material is an irreversible process in which domain-wall energy is converted to heat. It is suggested that this energy is a substantial component of the observed static hysteresis loss.
