Abstract
This paper compares the transmission through electrically thin butt and overlap gaps. It is shown that in the limit as the gap widths approaches zero, the transmissions are identical and the transmitted power can be minimized by choosing the gap depths as a quarter wavelength plus an integer number of half wavelengths
