Abstract
It is possible to combine all the dimensions of a current transformer, namely the area and length of the ferromagnetic core, the number of turns, and the resistance of the load into a single parameter, called the current-transformer size constant, which is a constant for a particular current transformer. The current-transformer size constant can be determined analytically by assuming that the magnetisation characteristic is linear. But, in practice, it is not so. An analytical solution considering the nonlinearity is very complicated. An analogue-computer method of solving the equations is presented. In this connection, it is of interest to consider up to what flux density the magnetisation characteristic can be considered linear. The error in the result by assuming linearity up to flux density can be computed from the results of the analogue-computer study presented in the paper.
