Abstract :
The fundamental components of weight regulation in humans and their relative contribution to the energy equation, and energetics of obesity, are reviewed. In conclusion, the energetics of maintaining body weight is defined by several key components that should remain in balance under normal conditions, and growing agreement that the energy intake and energy expenditure sides of the equation need to be addressed to better understand the challenges of the obesity epidemic.
