Abstract :
This paper studies a new and general method to determine the characteristics and operating regions of distance relays for transmission lines in the complex plane (Z-plane). This method is easy to apply and seems not to be found in the literature. In [1] we presented several particular applications for electromechanical and static distance relays. Two general and important applications using the new method are given.
