Abstract :
The problem of adjusting the voltage-regulator gain, damping gain and time constant is considered. The `Whitley standard forms¿ are applied to a single-alternator system, and the voltage regulator is optimised with respect to the i.t.a.e. (integral of time à absolute value of error) criterion. It is shown, by experiments on a model system, that the optimisation yields good steady-state stability limits and, in consequence, underdamped system response.
