Abstract
Most micromachined vibratory gyroscopes may be classified as "rate" gyroscopes where it is angular rate that is measured. Rate integrating gyroscopes measure the orientation angle directly. The operating principles of the micro-rate integrating ring gyroscope in the presence of imperfections are presented here. A relationship between the angle error, the imperfections, and applied angular rate is derived for the purpose of establishing the fabrication tolerances required for a particular applied angular rate.
